I know these picture posts might be a bit boring, so I'm cutting my Yellowstone series short and will finish with some sunset pictures of Mammoth Hot Springs with a touch of Ine and Grizzly posing at Old Faithful Geyser.

The Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest geyser basin in the park and is located near the northwest edge of Yellowstone Caldera near Norris Junction and on the intersection of three major faults. Norris Geyser Basin is so hot and dynamic because two faults intersect with the ring fracture zone that resulted from the creation of the Yellowstone Caldera of 640,000 years ago.

We left on a Friday after work, our first stop was Leavenworth.
Leavenworth is a charming little town in Chelan County, Washington. What makes this city special you wonder? Well, the entire town center is modelled on a Bavarian village. They even have a nutcracker Museum. While we were visiting, the town was celebrating Oktoberfest. The funny thing is that it's actually claimed to be one of the most attended in the world outside Munich, Germany. Not sure if that's true though so don't quote me on it.
I know it sounds cheesy, but we actually quite liked it. We'll definitely be back, we really...

Hi everyone
We just came back from a road trip. We managed to drive 7550 kilometers in 3 weeks, so we covered quite a bit of ground.
Just like last year, we decided to include Yellowstone. I know, it's the 3rd time in four years we've been to Yellowstone, but it's still my favorite place to go. The abundance of wildlife in combination with the scenery makes it so special.
Unlike other years, we stayed overnight in the park. We were able to book a cabin in the Mammoth Hot Springs area. Something that was really neat, was the fact that we didn't have cell phone reception, internet, radio, television,...

As mentioned before, Yellowstone is our favorite National Park. It is the first National Park in the world and is mostly known for its geothermal features and wildlife. If you've never seen the BBC Yellowstone series, watch them now!

We spent 2 days and a half in the park, lodging in West Yellowstone. We saw lots of wildlife, but no bears this time... not even a black bear. What we did see was lots of coyotes, bison, pronghorn, elk, deer and a bunch of wolves.

First of all, sorry for the long stretch of inactivity. We had a busy summer and just got back from our 6500 km road trip down to Las Vegas and back, so we have lots of material to post in the following weeks :)
The first stop on our trip was our all time favorite National Park, Yellowstone, Wyoming. We spent 2 days in Yellowstone, but still have the feeling we need to go back for a longer stretch, it's just so marvelous... I'm sure Ine will tell you all about it when she starts writing up our experiences/encounters, but for now I will leave you with some first batch of pictures from the trip.

Maybe a more appropriate blog topic would be: "10 photos I made in 2008 of which I'm most happy and for which I'm looking for an excuse to post them again..." but that would be too long, so let's go for the Top 10 one :)

Lets fast forward a bit, I still have a ton of photos of Yellowstone, but things might get a bit boring if I continue with them, so let's move on to...
Jackson, Wyoming, is a small town located in the Jackson Hole valley located south of Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Park. In the last couple of years, the town has gone from an actual cowboy town to an upper class ski resort, which results in a combination of great western stores and sushi bars.

I'm a bit low on inspiration at the the moment, so I'm just gonna do a quick post with some more pictures from Yellowstone National Park and short descriptions.
The first picture shows a dead tree in Mammoth Hot Springs, killed by the calcium carbonate dissolved in the hot spring water. Mammoth is a large hill of travertine that has been created over thousands of years as hot water from the spring cooled and deposited calcium carbonate. Each day over 2 tons of calcium carbonate flows into Mammoth.
