Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada

After visiting Bryce and a brief visit to Zion National Park, we were on our way to Overton, Nevada for an evening visit to Valley Of Fire State Park located about 100km from Las Vegas. We encountered this guy right after leaving Zion National Park: The Undertaker After a short drive and a quick dip in the swimming pool, we met up with Helena and Eefje and set out to visit Valley of Fire State Park. It derives its name from red sandstone formations, formed from great shifting sand dunes during the age of dinosaurs. The park is immensely popular for wedding pictures since it is so close to Las Vegas,...

Bryce Canyon and surroundings

After leaving Salt lake and driving towards Escalante our initial plan was to stop at Capitol Reef, but we decided to take our chances and try to meet up with Helena and Eefje in Bryce Canyon. This was one of the final views of Escalante Grand Staircase before we headed into some serious lightning storms. Escalante Grand Staircase After arriving in Bryce I decided to do a quick 3km hike before heading to the hotel. After completing the hike I saw that Ine already bumped into Helena and Eefje by accident on the rim of Bryce Canyon. We knew they were in the area, but the odds were still against...

Wild Yellowstone

If you've never seen the BBC Yellowstone series, watch them now! Geothermal activity in Midway Geyser Basin - Yellowstone Geothermal activity in West Thumb Geyser Basin - Yellowstone We spent 2 days and a half in the park, lodging in West Yellowstone. We saw lots of wildlife, but no bears this time... not even a black bear. What we did see was lots of coyotes, bison, pronghorn, elk, deer and a bunch of wolves. Bison in Yellowstone The...

Back from the road

First of all, sorry for the long stretch of inactivity. We had a busy summer and just got back from our 6500 km road trip down to Las Vegas and back, so we have lots of material to post in the following weeks :) The first stop on our trip was our all time favorite National Park, Yellowstone, Wyoming. We spent 2 days in Yellowstone, but still have the feeling we need to go back for a longer stretch, it's just so marvelous... I'm sure Ine will tell you all about it when she starts writing up our experiences/encounters, but for now I will leave you with some first batch of pictures from the trip.

Mr Coney

Grizzly had surgery last week to remove a small lump and to prevent him from scratching the wound, he has to wear a cone for a while. That doesn't prevent him from traveling and sunbathing though. This is Grizzly sunbathing in the Victoria Harbor at the float plane dock and he doesn't want to be disturbed, not even for food!
