Snow day in Port Moody

We woke up this morning, and Port Moody was covered with snow. It was so nice! It's starting to rain now, so I'm sure the snow will be gone by tonight, but we definitely had a great morning. I went for a walk with Grizzly around 6:00am. After breakfast, Kris and I decided to go out again and take grizzly to a nearby field where he could go off leash and play. There were so many kids sledding down the hill and of course tons of other dogs playing in the snow. And last but not least we went for a small hike further up the mountain. Below some pictures. Home Entrance to our complex. On our 6:00...

Whistler

Last weekend we visited Whistler again. We haven't been spending lots of time up the mountain this season (sadly enough). But I know that will change soon. After 5 years, Kris decided to start skiing again (instead of snowboarding). He realized he really missed it, and he figured it was time to get some skis. This obviously means we really have to head up the mountain more often in the next few months (no complaining from my side, except maybe for the fact that he is skiing and not boarding:). Just kidding honey). Some pictures below Excelerator Chairlift. Lovely Jill, Stephen and Kris Bobby...

Local shots

Some recent shots from our neck of the woods. An early morning at work. Bridge in Golden Ears Provincial Park. The last picture was one of the filming locations for Rambo First Blood, which was filmed all over the Lower Mainland. http://www.firstbloodfilminglocations.com/index_files/Page665.htm shows some stills of the movie with the bridge (bottom of the page).

Where did December go?

One thing's for sure, this post is long overdue! I can't believe it's been over a month since we posted something. Sorry everyone! Busy holidays I guess! Our holidays were really nice. My mom and dad came to visit us and guess what? They actually made it without delays or cancellations! Both Kris and I got some time off during Christmas and New Year, which was very pleasant. Unlike many Canadians we celebrated Christmas Evening (instead of Christmas day). We stayed home and made an amazing dinner (if I may say so myself). Our Christmas tree Dad and the Christmas roast! On Christmas day we visited...

Cheakamus Doggie Den Whistler

I just got an email from Cari, the owner of Cheakamus Doggie Den in Whistler, she forwarded us some pictures of Grizzly. They have just opened their doggie day care in Whistler, and I have to say I was really impressed with their business! They offer daycare services as well as dog walking services. They are open 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, 7 days a week. So if you're planning to spend the day on the mountain (snowboarding, mountain biking,...) this is the place to take your pooch for the day! I wish them the best of luck with the new place and we'll definitely be back!

Whistler

Both Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain were open this weekend, so we decided to go up for the day and enjoy our first snowboarding day of the season. We left really early in the morning and our drive up until Squamish was fine, but heading further north wasn't great when it came to driving conditions. Heading into Cheakamus Canyon we were confronted with total whiteout conditions. We saw a car in the ditch and the car in front of us started skidding. So we had a pretty challenging drive. We were ready to head up the mountain around 8:30am, so we got an early start. It looked very cloudy and snowy...

Hollyburn Peak

Temperatures dropped quite a bit in the last week, so we got some early snow. Just a little bit downtown and where we live, but a lot on the North Shore Mountains and Whistler. Because we still love snow, we decided to head up to Cypress Mountain and enjoy some snowshoeing. The 3.5 hour snowshoe route to Hollyburn Peak is actually within Cypress Provincial Park. It starts from the same parking lot as the cross-country ski and snowshoe area up on Cypress Mountain but there is no charge to use the trail. Plus, it's the only snowshoe trail up the mountain that allows dogs. We normally go to Mount...

Bryce Canyon and surroundings

After leaving Salt lake and driving towards Escalante our initial plan was to stop at Capitol Reef, but we decided to take our chances and try to meet up with Helena and Eefje in Bryce Canyon. This was one of the final views of Escalante Grand Staircase before we headed into some serious lightning storms. Escalante Grand Staircase After arriving in Bryce I decided to do a quick 3km hike before heading to the hotel. After completing the hike I saw that Ine already bumped into Helena and Eefje by accident on the rim of Bryce Canyon. We knew they were in the area, but the odds were still against...

Haney to Harrison Relay Race

This weekend our friends participated in the Haney to Harrison Relay. The 29th annual H2H route followed the mighty Fraser River along country roads, finishing at Harrison Lake. It is a very popular 100km 8-person Relay and there are even people that do a 100km Ultra (one person running 100 km in one day). The legs of the race ranged from 8km to 15km (up and downhill) . The money our group (Joe’s Bros and Hos) raised from sponsors was donated to the Moir Foundation. We had to get up really early on Saturday because our volunteer shift (as race marshals) started at 6:15 am. After our shift,...

Wild Yellowstone

As mentioned before, Yellowstone is our favorite National Park. It is the first National Park in the world and is mostly known for its geothermal features and wildlife. If you've never seen the BBC Yellowstone series, watch them now! Geothermal activity in Midway Geyser Basin - Yellowstone Geothermal activity in West Thumb Geyser Basin - Yellowstone We spent 2 days and a half in the park, lodging in West Yellowstone. We saw lots of wildlife, but no bears this time... not even a black bear. What we did see was lots of coyotes, bison, pronghorn, elk, deer and a bunch of wolves. Bison in Yellowstone The...
