Hollyburn Peak
Temperatures dropped quite a bit in the last week, so we got some early snow. Just a little bit downtown and where we live, but a lot on the North Shore Mountains and Whistler.
Because we still love snow, we decided to head up to Cypress Mountain and enjoy some snowshoeing.
The 3.5 hour snowshoe route to Hollyburn Peak is actually within Cypress Provincial Park. It starts from the same parking lot as the cross-country ski and snowshoe area up on Cypress Mountain but there is no charge to use the trail. Plus, it’s the only snowshoe trail up the mountain that allows dogs. We normally go to Mount Seymour, but they weren’t open yet (they will be tomorrow).
One thing’s for sure: Good cardio work out with the steep climbs… The elevation gain is around 400m, but the total ascent during the hike is 769m. The views from the top made the hike well worth it. The peak offers a scenic view of sections of Vancouver, Burrard Inlet, and the Lions off in the distance. We decided to attack our lunches and as we were about to take a bite from our sandwiches we noticed some Whiskey-Jacks. These birds are so bold! You can tell they are totally used to hanging with the visitors. They come and sit on your hand to steal your food!
Mister Grizzly joined us on our walk. He absolutely loves the snow. We used his backpack for the first time. Yes you read it right: a backpack! Grizzly is a sled dog, and we were told that it’s better to “make them work” more than an average dog. So we let him carry his own water and treats. It went really well, he couldn’t care less:). He is totally exhausted now and sleeping at my feet, but we all had a good day!
We took some pictures and made a small video, but the batteries of my camera died, therefore we had to use our mobiles to take some extra pictures. Quality isn’t the best…

Dierenmishandeling!! Eerst dat beest overbelasten en dan nog in de sneeuw graven ook. Schandalig!!!!!!11!eins Schoon foto's trouwens :) Anders misschien goed moment om dat binnenwegje te pakken richting Buntzen Lake? Langs de eletriek kabels.

Seg seg, hij ging hem zelf in de sneeuw leggen! Ons vals beschuldigen! (Ok misschien dat Kris wel een handje geholpen heeft met hem te bedekken in sneeuw). Hmm dat binnenbaantje, kweetnie:P Kheb wel al mensen gehoord die naar den top van den berg waar we op wonen snowshoe'en, dus misschien not a bad idea om uw route te doen:) Oeist ginder he? Kheb gezien dat de eerste sneeuw er ook al lag.

Héél mooie foto's en leuk filmpje!! Lang geleden da we elkaar gehoord hebben hé. Hoe ist daar? Het zit nog altijd in mijn hoofd om eens te komen, maar wanneer hé. Kheb al gekeken naar de vliegtickets, maar waarom zijn die zo duur??!! Zijn de toegangen van nationale parken en dergelijke duur?

Dag Nele Leuk om te weten dat je de blog af en toe nog eens checkt:) Tis inderdaad vreselijk lang geleden! Hier is alles goed, volop aan het uitkijken naar het winter seizoen!! Ja wat de tickets betreft, ik weet het, ze zijn duur, tis in de tussenseizoenen da ge soms wel is chance kunt hebben. Nu logement hebt ge he, dus die kost moet je niet incalculeren! We hebben twee extra kamers, dus een voor jullie en eentje voor Felien! Wat betreft de parken, als je elk park individueel betaalt dan wordt het duur, maar je kan een pass kopen voor 80 dollar en daar kan je elk nationaal park mee binnen. Dus als je van plan bent er verschillende te doen, dan is dat wel de beste oplossing! Laat maar weten als je info nodig zou hebben. We hebben redelijk veel documentatie liggen! Hoe is het met jullie? Hopelijk alles goed en zeker met Felientje! Groetjes daar aan iedereen!
