Chomolungma

Mount Everest, also called Chomolungma or Qomolangma or Sagarmatha. This weekend we went to a lecture of a Belgian guy, Robert Huygh, who climbed the Mount Everest. I have always been fascinated by the Mount Everest and the stories of people who tried to climb it. Photo by Star Trooper Different attempts to the top have been made.

Paul McCarthy: HEAD SHOP/SHOP HEAD

Yesterday we decided to do something about our "lack" of cultural knowledge. We decided to visit the S.M.A.K. museum in Ghent. Currently, there is an exhibition of Paul McCarthy. The name of the exhibition is HEAD SHOP/SHOP HEAD. People who don't know him should really check out his work. The least you can say is, that it's very special. Some keywords that can describe the exhibition and maybe give you an idea about the weirdness and diversity of the exhibition: pirates, sex, ketchup, blood, George Bush,... "The following characterization does not pull its punches: Paul McCarthy is dirty and rotten,...

Disneyland

Two weeks ago we visited Disneyland in Paris. Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to go there. But actually until last week I never went to Disneyland before. Even though I nagged like hell to go there, my parents didn't like the idea of visiting Disneyland. So there I was a innocent little child that never went to Disneyland before... After the disappointment that my parents didn't want to go with me I found a new victim who I could try to convince to take me to Disneyland. It took me more than 7 years to convince Kris to go with me, but finally, I succeeded! (special thanks to Kris;)) I...

Norwegian Armed Forces Museum

The Norwegian Armed Forces Museum is a historical museum, depicting Norwegian military history. The museum is located at Akershus Fortress in heart of Oslo. Admission is free at the museum, too bad I did not know that at that time (not that I would've had the time to visit it anyway...). More info: http://www.mil.no/felles/fmu/start/museet/English/

Oslo Opera House

This picture shows the Oslo Opera House which is scheduled to open April 12th, 2008. Not as beautiful as the Sydney Opera House, but still a very cool construction :) Total expenditures for the building project is set at NOK 4 billion (521 million € or 745 US$).

Oslo

Sorry about the lack of updates lately, but the last two weeks have been really hectic. I just got back from a business trip to Oslo on which I found some time to walk around in Oslo and take some pictures. So, expect to see a mix of Disney and Oslo pictures in the next couple of days/weeks (depending on how much time I can spend on blogging). For now I leave you with a picture I took on top of the Akershus Fortress which shows the Norwegian flag in combination with the beautiful autumn foliage. As you can see the weather was great :)

Disneyland Paris

This weekend, we made a trip to Disneyland Paris together with David (colleague and friend from work) and his girlfriend Elke. I think my last visit to a Disney resort was about 9 years ago, so I knew this was going to be a nostalgic weekend :) We booked the trip through the internet a month in advance and the cost was 584€ for 4 persons. This included a 2 day hopper pass for the two parks and one night in Hotel Santa Fe (The cheapest Disney hotel). One of the main advantages of staying in a Disney hotel is that you can enter the main park at 8 am, two hours before the park opens, which was great...

Real-deal.be

People who know me are probably aware of the fact that I love snowboarding. Because of the fact that the Belgian snowboard scene is really really small, it is important to support the scene as much as possible. Somebody I know is opening a new snowboard / skate shop in Antwerp. You should really go there and take a look at what they have because they are selling a lot of cool brands!! Check www.real-deal.be for more info. They will be opening their shop the 27th of October!

Old Gallery

Last week, while walking around in Sint Martens Latem, I stumbled across this old abandoned house. Apparently this used to be the gallery of painter Evarist de Buck (1892-1974). Too bad I didn't have enough time to go closer and get some more interesting shots. Maybe worth a revisit before it gets leveled...

Misheard lyrics

We all have songs we heard a lot, but don't actually know the lyrics to. So we sing along our own versions of the song which sometimes produces hilarious results. On YouTube you can find some great user interpretations of certain songs, of which I listed my personal favourites. The most famous one, Nightwish - Wishmaster: Christina Aguilera-Ain't No Other Man: Slayer - Angel Of Death: Rhapsody - The Power of DragonFlame:
